      Team Communication: Slack

Slack is a great and diverse app that allows free and easy team communication. Not only does it do text chat but also video and audio calls. You can share files and use many different text channels as well. Over 750,000 Businesses use Slack and all of it’s features. It is available on android, iOS and PC.

The only drawback with Slack is everyone’s requirement to have audio and video devices to use the full extent of the programs worth.

       Document Sharing: Google Docs

Google Docs is great and I guarantee everyone on this team already has a Google account, albeit for YouTube, Gmail, or any other popular Google service. Sharable links allow you to download any document from any team member with ease on a variety of platforms.

Google docs has a fairly limited set of features compared to MS Office programs; however, Google Docs is a free system. One must be connected to the internet to use Google Docs. Some users find Google Docs more difficult to learn and/or use than MS Office.

Version Control: VisualSVN

VisualSVN Server allows you to easily install and manage a fully-functional Subversion server on Windows. Thanks to its robustness, unbeatable usability and amazing enterprise grade features it is not only good for small teams like ourselves but also for massive corporations. It is free and easy to download.

This program will be certainly harder to use than the others I have included but with a team as smart as ours it should be no problem.

       Prototyping: InVision

InVision allows for easy uploading and cataloging of prototypes of any kind of file type. Each team member can have their own page full of their work that will be easy to access for everyone on this team and not seeable by any unauthorized users. This program is free.

        Time Tracking: Toggl

A great tool for keeping everyone together and on track is Toggl. Extremely simple but very essential with it’s tracking abilities and teamwork based services.

        Project Management: Basecamp

The most popular application for managing projects is, Basecamp. Everything can be organized and stored in one place with ease. Everyone on our team will be able to keep their head on straight as everything in our project will be easily visible here

       Code Testing: Codility

Offers code checking which can save hundreds maybe even thousands of hours of man time. Used by many reputable companies. Also offers a score and many other fun features.

       Digital Marketing Analytics: MixPanel

MixPanel will Analyze, measure, and improve our customer experience. It has a multitude of functions that they do themselves to help create analytics to help us.

       SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Semrush

Used by over 5 million users, Semrush can help us optimize our website’s rank in the searches of visitors and potential customers. This has become even more crucial for those focusing heavily on content marketing. They rank and review the premiere SEO tools that will help keep our company’s website on top of Google searches.

       Page Speed Testing: PageSpeed Insights by Google

An extremely simple site to test the speed of our site and make sure that it is ready to go for everyone using it.

  1. Great work on this Reid. You’ve made some strong software selections. I’m not sure about VisualSVN because you have to use Subversion with it (?), I think GitHub or GitLab or BitBucket are more industry standard (so would work well if you had contract developers now and then).

    Your writing style has the right tone – directed towards a team, practical, and using personable statements about why it’s right for the team.
